Reel Afghanistan is now finished and wrapped up for the year. First thing we’d like to do is offer a huge Thank You/Tashakor to all our guests, audience, volunteers and sponsors! Without you all none of this could have happened! The festival was a great success, with packed out screenings, exhibitions and masterclasses and some of the most incredible music performances I have ever had the chance to see. We will be uploading some pictures and audio/video from these over the next few weeks, please keep coming back to check. We’re now working on future festival ideas too, if you want to keep informed on these please just sign up to our mailing list. Also the key charity we were working with, Afghan Schools Trust, is going from strength to strength and is in the process of building a hostel for students in Kabul. We’ve been busy recently finalising the plans for the festival and thought now would be a good time to let you know how things are going.

• The programme for the festival has been finalised - please see our website for more information. It’s shaping up to be the festival of our dreams, with amazing films, music and exhibitions all focussing on sides of Afghanistan not usually seen in the mainstream media, along with talks by Afghan directors including Atiq Rahimi, performances by Kharabat and the Qawali Sham Sufi Group (both direct from Afghanistan) and much more.
• Yurt Art - an exhibition of Afghan nomadic textiles from the 19th and 20th century is open from 12 -7 at the GRV (next door to the Saraswati Shop on Guthrie St, Edinburgh). It’s free of charge and definitely worth a visit.
• Aliki Sapontzi and Colin Watmough’s exhibition of photographs ‘Before the War - Afghanistan at Peacetime’ will host it’s opening on Sunday 3rd February from 2-4pm at the Bongo Club, 37 Holyrood Rd. This is a stunning collection of photographs of Afghanistan in the early 1970s and definitely worth a visit.
• Tickets are now on sale for both our music events! As part of the festival we are hosting 2 events with musicians coming direct from Kabul for their UK début performances. More information about these events will be forthcoming, but please see our music page for more information and to purchase tickets.
